WINTER

The perfect base for visitors to the Snowy Mountains’ winter wonderland of snowboarding and skiing, Jindabyne is around half-an-hour from Perisher Blue and Thredbo. Naturally, the town comes alive during the colder months, when visitors take advantage of ski hire, a variety of places to eat, a contemporary cinema showing up-to-the-minute films and a range of other entertainment features.

Ski Thredbo:

The most recognised and renowned ski area in Australia. The longest runs and steepest vertical skiing in the country. On top of that Thredbo has invested heavily in a large snowmaking system larger than any other in the southern hemisphere.

Ski Perisher:

Perisher Blue Ski Resort is located well above the snow line. It’s the elevation and enormous spread that offers Australia’s best skiing and boarding, boasting a massive grooming fleet, the largest in Australia, state-of-the-art equipment and experienced, service focused staff that understand the importance of a properly groomed mountain. We have an extensive 34.5 hectares of snowmaking so when mother nature withholds her treasures, we’ve got it covered. Between man-made and mother natures there is always plenty of snow at Perisher Blue.

SUMMER

Mountain Bike riding:

Indulge in the thrills and joys of biking amidst breathtaking alpine views, imagine 25 km descents through snow gums, alpine ash and rain forest, relaxing jaunts over snow grass plains, visiting old cattlemen’s huts, or thrilling downhill descents on the Cannonball trail at Thredbo; with a guide or on your own, it’s your choice. The Snowy Mountains is a great place to go bike riding.

Bush Walking:

Australia’s high country offers superb Alpine walking. The steep western faces of Kosciusko National park with their panoramic views are matched in magnificence only by the carpets of wild flowers in the spring and summer. In other areas of the mountains you can walk over alpine grass plains surrounded by eucalypt forests. Get a feel for the history of the area by visiting old cattlemen’s huts. Whatever your level of fitness there are walks for all ages.

Art and craft:

Catch the train to the top of “Blue Cow” and visit the art gallery on the roof of Australia, drive up to Thredbo and have a look at Raw NRG art and gift shop, or grab your paint and pencils and walk up the hill behind Silvertop to catch magnificent landscapes.

Fishing:

The Snowy Mountains and Lake Jindabyne area has some of the best trout fishing locations on mainland Australia with a full variety of fishing spots from tiny streams for “dry fly” fishing to larger rivers for fly fishing and lure spinning to larger lakes where all methods of trout fishing can be used including fly fishing, boat trolling, lure spinning and bait fishing.

Horse Riding:

Whether it be a two hour ride or an overnight trek, horse riding in this area is a real “Man from Snowy River” experience. There are a number of specialist high country horse riding companies who can organise a ride to suit every need.

Swimming:

Whether it be a cold mountain stream, a heated indoor pool, or Lake Jindabyne itself, there are lots of opportunities to enjoy a refreshing swim.
